LEARN MORE ABOUT ME
After years of experience working with children, young people and families as a qualified Youth and Community Worker, I sought to work with people on a different, deeper level. I commenced my counselling training and I have been a practising Counsellor and Psychotherapist for the past 13 years. I remain as passionate about therapy today as I did when I embarked on my training many years ago.
I work with the whole person, and believe that a person is made up of so much more than their presenting symptoms and scenario. A client’s narrative and journey is an important element of counselling. Carl Rogers shared in his teachings “the curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
I have gained an extensive range of experience and skills, and I have continued my training to deliver a broader range of therapeutic services for the client’s whom I work with. The client’s sense of self and their wellbeing is my priority, and informed by a range of therapeutic models and approaches, therapy is tailored to meet the needs of the individual. I am a member of a number of professional bodies, including an Accredited Member of BACP.
With my experience and training, I work therapeutically with all ages. I work creatively with children from the age of 3 years of age, primary school aged children and post-primary school children. I work with adults of all ages, and create a calm, tailored therapeutic space to facilitate this work.
Over the past number of years, I have received extensive training in EMDR for children (from the age of 2 years of age) and adults, which is a model formally recognised across the world for effectively processing trauma, including a recommended model of therapy for trauma by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE Guidelines). EMDR is an effective model and used by many clients at Halcyon Therapies.
In addition, I provide Life Coaching to individuals, which is an empowering process to explore and address goals in your life, both personally and professionally. I offer NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Time Line Therapy and Hypnotherapy to adults. My broad range of therapeutic training and experience help us to work in a way most effective and comfortable for the client.
I have years of experience of teaching and training including Counselling, and offer Continuing Professional Development training.
Halcyon Therapies also provides Clinical Supervision for trainee and qualified Counsellors, and I am on the register for the University of Ulster affiliated Counselling courses.
It is a privilege for me to share my passion for therapy with so many clients, and I learn so much from them. Carl Rogers is the founder of Person-Centred Counselling and shares with us in his teachings “People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right-hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
